Let's not forget this shooting could be a "test" of police and emergency vehicles reactions. This "angry Muslim" could be the tip of the proverbial terrorist iceberg.
The Beslen school attacks actually made me think how easy that identical scenario could happen in the USA.
In fact, could you not think of a better way to truly instill terror in this country? Have 100 teams of 5 imbedded terrorists assault 100 elementary schools across the USA on the same day. Or 100 businesses, malls, etc.
The point is, since the terrorists would be on a suicide mission, they would simply open up and kill/wound as many children as possible.
Then imagine the usual terrorist mantra broadcast on Al Jazerra intoning how "today's glorious attacks are but a small sample of what Palestine and Lebonese children have been tolerating over the years due to Israeli and U.S. policy.."
Think a few parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, etc. would be in a mood to discuss tolerance of cultural differences or engage in the politics of what just happened? Talk about opening Pandora's Box or awakening a sleeping giant! The response would have to be so intense and severe as to make Truman's decision in August 1945 a giggle.
I would ALMOST feel sorry for most of the MidEast. Almost.
Sorry to say that in your scenario of a bunch of schools, etc. attacked simultaneously, I don't think the response would be overwhelming.
Democrats would say "we deserved it" because of Republican policies. The world community would threaten us with war crimes tribunals if our response was anything beyond a few bombs here and there.
Sure, we could nuke something or somewhere, but the associated parties aligned for a socialist world utopia would use that as their excuse to overwhelm the United States of America as we know it - with embargoes [think oil embargo], financial pull-out [1929], etc. But for the fact that millions of Americans would help them, we might just make it out in one piece. With 40% of our country helping the Reds (or Pinks better said), civil war here might ensue.
More likely, people would just cave to the world and vote out whomever had done the "massive" retribution.
