That's an amazing archaeological site. I'm glad they're still able to make news.

Was anyone arrested for possession of a handgun?

Maybe they could turn it in to a gun buy back program. I bet it's not too useful for self defense.

have uncovered a rare but perfectly preserved early 17th-century Scottish pistol If it's in perfect condition, then show us a picture?

The pistol was probably discarded by its prescient owner who foresaw that it would not be necessary in the future socialist utopia known as the United States of America, where nobody "needs" a handgun. (/sarcasm)
To: Marius3188
but I read a book by Michael Bellesiles that said there were no guns in colonial america. It has to be a mistake.

Just a random 17th century pistol...any resemblance to the recovered flintlock is purely coinkydink.

Yes, they are still trying to "debunk" the "myth" of armed colonists. They take such leaps.
So this pistol was a matchlock or a wheel-lock? I know the flintlock began gaining ground rapidly at the close of the English Civil War era 1642 to 1651 so it would not have used a flint mechanism. Of course some weapons had no lock at all, just a touch hole for the match (slow burning cord).

Nah, Jamestown is in Virginia. Now, if it had been found at Plymouth..... Actually, the pilgrims at Plymouth were subject to a 12 pence fine for failing to bring their loaded musket to church.

So how does one pronounce "snaphuance"? "snap - once"? "snaf-uance"? Perhaps we have the origin of the word "snafu" here!
