I do know this.
The media would have us believe that only the arab muslims hate Israel. From personal experience I know that's not so. I have spoken to many Somalis and they have NOTHING good to say about Israelis. On Sept. 12th when I went to work a few of the Somali temps male and female blamed it on the "jews".
Your story reminds me: Years ago in college I befriended an exchange student whose mother was Jordanian and father was Lebanese. She was a Christian as well. She was, smart, popular and seemed very mainstream in her dress and customs. She loved America and American culture. And American men.
She stayed with us over Christmas vacation and was going on and on about this guy she just knew she was in love with. He had been tutoring her in Math and boy, did she have it bad. She sent him little gifts, talked about him incessantly, pined for him and planned for their future together. (Poor guy was clueless...)
Anyway, In the course of the holiday, I happened to casually mention that his mother was Jewish. She sat bolt upright, looked at me stunned and went off on a diatribe I will never forget. One moment, she'd been infatuated, the next hated him with a white hot passion I will never forget. It was so weird. She blamed him personally for all the evil in the world, the misery her family had endured, for "tricking her" into falling in love with him.
I didn't know what to say so I just listened stunned. After Christmas break she quit seeing him as a tutor, eventually dropped out of school and went trolloping after a married Arabic airline pilot she'd met visiting some friends in NYC.
It was a very eyeopening experience and helped me realize there are certain mindsets in this world that are completely beyond my comprehension and outside the scope of logic.
I've always wondered what happened to her.
