When you are talking about what the kids do once they become adults, W_P is right, but getting them to adulthood is your responsibility as a parent and obedience and manners are not optional. Without them, if they do reach adulthood, they won't go far or last long.
They are not an option in my house either. My child is 8, I'm 46. My daughter's best friend is also 8, obedience and manners aren't optional in that house either and the mother is 20 years younger than I am.
Your attempted slur on the parental abilities of those who did not grow up when you did, is just that, an attempt - and a rather pathetic one at that.
