Civil aviation revolutionized the world of travel. Before the airplane, only the very wealthy could see famous views close up - and they traveled to Europe on cruise ocean liners. Even if one could afford the cost of a transatlantic ocean voyage, only the wealthy could afford to spend so much time traveling at sea. With transatlantic flights that take 8-9 hours, it is possible for people of moderate means to take a two or three week vacation in Europe.
Exactly my point. The automobile has done the same on a domestic level. And the Left hates both. Gee, that makes me wonder if their protest against "global warming" isn't a mask for an agenda that would reinstate elite privileges. After all, I think the real reason is well-heeled Lefties want every one else to enjoy postcard views - from a safe distance.
