A recess appointment is only good until the NEXT new Congressional session starts...so, after the November elections..those who are elected will be sworn in in January...
So that is how long Bolton has, until the new Congress is sworn in in January...unless they confirm him before hand for a full stint under President Bush.
I forgot to mention that I did read that Bolton COULD stay on after January without being confirmed...but, he wouldn't be paid.
I am not sure about that..but I did read that somewhere today.
