You know, every time I read another Victor Davis Hanson piece, I can't help thinking,

Pat Buchanon must hate this guy with a white-hot passion.

Thank you President Bush for running political interference to keep the various Leftists in Europe and the UN off Israels back.

The one thing VDH does not mention is that the nuts are tribal, going back a 1000 years.

Killing 10 to 1 will slow them in the short term.

The long term is how to stop them.

Let's pray Iran doesn't already have a nuke acquired from Pakistan or Russia and are using all this as a pretext to deploy it. I'm not suggesting they would be stupid enough to launch a missile from Iran to use it. They'd sneak it in by land with no one claiming responsibility for the results. They would simply say it was the will of Allah...

And for all the efforts of the BBC, Reuters, Western academics, and the horde of appeasers and apologists that usually bail these terrorist killers out when their rhetoric finally outruns their muscle, this time they can’t.

Exactly. Terrific summation of the current state of play in the Lebanon Theater from Victor Davis Hanson. Hezbollah thought Israel would probably capitulate as she did in the past or if she struck back hard, they could count on the rest of the world to ride to their rescue. On both counts they miscalculated and their extremism has prevented the West's Islamofascist apologists from helping them out with a ceasefire. The Israelis know this an enemy that does not have the word "compromise" in its lexicon. So it will be a fight to the finish.

I hope he's right..but I suspect that in the end Israel will be held up short of total victory again. They will beat Hezbollah bloody but instead of being allowed to finish them they be leashed again and have to do it all over again in teh future.

Israel is at last being given an opportunity to unload on jihadists

But they won't. Political forces will probably keep that from happening to any significant extent. I wouldn't pretend to know the mind of God, other what he has inspired his prophets to teach: He made a covenant with the 12 tribes of Isreal, which included blessings if they kept it and curses if they broke it. They broke it and wouldn't relent over a period of 1200 years, culminating in the Crucifixion. The nation was destroyed as promised. They are now a mixed race, their are no priests, no temple, no religion as prescribed in Leviticus and Deuteronomy, no covenant with them as a chosen people (except those who are in Christ just like other Christians-- the spiritual Isreal or remant described in Hosea, Joel, Jeremiah, etc.), and that area now inhabited by their descendants will never know peace as long as they are there. There is no final solution for the modern nation of Isreal with respect to the Arabs, and there will always be turmoil in our lifetimes.

I would prefer we didn't get mixed up in it.

Why do not Iran and Syria — or for that matter other Arab states — now attack Israel to join the terrorists that they have armed?

Perhaps because the Great Satan, having displayed his willilngness to stand and die to defend Iraq, would have no qualms about doing the same for Israel, and is now free to do a little sightseeing?

Instead, a disgusted world secretly wants these terrorists to get what they deserve. And who knows: This time they just might.

It's hard to believe that Israel would go to all this trouble to take out Hezbollah in Lebanon without addressing the immediate source of the problem: Syria and Iran. Probably only wishful thinking on my part, but I can't help speculating that Lebanon is a prelude to a concerted joint attack by American and Israeli forces on those two pariah states. If that happens, I'm gonna be deliriously happy.
