Which means at this point that the burden is on Mr. Thompson to supply evidence:
# that there is a "George Harleigh"; and
# and that he is the man described and quoted in innumerable articles, who taught Political Science at SIU and worked in the Nixon and Reagan administrations.
If "George Harleigh" is a pseudonym, that fact should be disclosed, and if there is a person calling himself "George Harleigh" whose remarks are being repeated, it falls on Doug Thompson to provide some evidence that this man is who he says he is.
Under the circumstances, until I hear otherwise, I think it is entirely reasonable to conclude that:
# there is no former political science professor named "George Harleigh" who worked for Nixon and Reagan; and
# Quotations attributed to him are inherently unreliable, and cast serious doubt on the credibility of sites which rely on them.
Again, if my suspicions turn out to be wrong, I'll certainly acknowledge that with apologies to Doug Thompson and George Harleigh.

Wow, sounds like this might be a web version of Rathergate --- all these (possibly) fictitious quotations attributed to the (possibly) fictitious persons, always used to bash President Bush, sound most suspicious. This guy seems (possibly) like a major league fabricator of anti-Bush "news"...........

This story may seem too quirky and trivial, but as an example of (possible) leftist fabrications it may fit nicely into the Jason Blair pattern.
Not only do the quotes and persons appear to be fictitious, but in the past 24 hours someone is trying to clean up the web, actually editing past articles to remove this stuff!! George Orwell's "memory hole" re-visited, except that (fortunately) there are cache pages and the fabricator should not be able to cover his tracks so easily. This sounds like a case for freeper research.
http://www.claytoncramer.com/weblog/2006_07_16_archive.html#115332917446438214 George Harleigh Is Vanishing Before Your Eyes!
Classical Values started this a couple of days ago, asking if anyone could find evidence that "George Harleigh" actually exists. He is described as a retired Southern Illinois University political science professor who had worked in the Nixon and Reagan Administrations--and is frequently quoted by leftists about what an evil crazy man George Bush is. I did a little digging too, and George Harleigh, for a retired professor, had left no mark anywhere.
Well, guess what? One of the leftist journalists who seems to be source of most (all?) the news stories quoting "George Harleigh" is not responding to the email from Classical Values asking about this guy--but news stories that used to quote George Harleigh are being silently edited. I'm sure that somewhere in a virtual reality hell, "George Harleigh" is disappearing, while screaming, "I'm melting, I'm melting!"
This Google search brings up a bunch of places where "George Harleigh" gets quoted. The very first result (at when I just ran it) was this Capitol Hill Blues news story. Guess what? There's no longer any reference to George Harleigh--and no acknowledgement that the story has been updated or changed. Someone can't admit that he is a liar, making people up, can he?
However, other leftists have already copied (rather than linked) to those news stories, such as this one.
It is really amusing that the left feels the need to make people up. I am reminded of the musician Moby's suggestion that leftists should go onto web sites and pretend to be conservative Republicans, disgruntled with George Bush, spreading stories that Moby admitted that Moby admitted that didn't believe. I suppose if you believe that there's no right or wrong, all of this is perfectly acceptable behavior. For decent people, it's another matter.

Were you not here, when CAPITAL HILL BLUE and it's owner ( who once was a FREEPER ) were exposed for the lying piece of scum he was? A vast majority of his columns and his supposed sources, were the guy's own fictions, stated as fact.
But the interesting part of this new stuff, is the deletions. Who caught on and WHO questioned and/or exposed this new stuff?

To: TnMomofTwo The rest of the story is Doug Thompson was exposed and confronted right here on FR by a freeper who started doing research and called Doug on it. As I note at #213 [http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1147610/posts?page=213#213](where I've linked to the discovery and ultimate outing----make no mistake, Doug Thompson did not step forward on his own), the Wilkinson smear/lie was set to coordinate with Joe Wilson's Niger saga.
Thompson was easier to expose because he was already regarded by the mainstreams as a crackpot. They'll use his stuff when it is to their benefit, but he is easier to get the truth out over the noise of his propaganda. Wilson is nuts and a liar, too, but has better credentials, hence his story has stuck around despite having holes a mile wide in it.

Yep, that he did. He also wrote a long, drawn-out non-apology apology to FR. I wonder of all of that is still in FR's archives.

Doug Thompson and his site were banned from FR for Bogus stories. He is a flake.
To: Enchante
Last time CHB spew was "internationalized" by Marc Ash's Truthout ste which sent the CHB article to Japan Today, where it was picked up by other press outlets with more "weight" than the obscure CHB. Then our lib "driveby media" took the story and reprinted it WITHOUT sourcing it and WITHOUT the name of Doug's imaginary friend/source. Once that was done there was no effective means for readers who stick to big-name media of spotting the bogus story since it was now wrapped in MSM camouflage. Thus, a story once fit only for the suparmarket checkout lane tabloids grew legs because it had been printed in the *cough* credible *cough* MSM.

It's plainly clear, to anyone with a brain larger than a peanut, that the Liberal parade of lies, half-truths, obsfuscations, and hatred has peaked and is in decline...

I think you are (possibly) very correct!! ClassicalValues quotes all these references to Freeper threads, some as old as "03, but I have never seen them.
It begs the question, "What rock have I been under?"
Very interesting story, lending even more credence to the old saying "Libs lie". Thanks for posting.

Doug Thompson has crawled out from under a rock again, and apparently has another fictitious source. I thought you might be interested in this article, since I think you followed the Wilkerson saga.

Thanks for the ping. I am amazed to see that having failed to foist a fake source off on us here at FR, he has tried to do it again. This guy is a real piece of work.
