Joe Lieberman is as much of a Democrat as George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and the other right-wing extremists currently running our Congress. Connecticut voters have an opportunity to tell the right-wingers to pack it in and go home. This so-called Democrat is still fully supporting the whole debacle going on in Iraq, even though all available evidence suggests everything Americans have been told regarding this so-called war is based on false premises. Wake up, Joe, and anyone in Connecticut supporting you; you and the other extremists have been proven wrong. This horrendous war has created more misery, troubles for all Americans and continues to completely drain our treasury. Connecticut voters, do not be fooled by this Republican in Democrat's clothes. He has deserted the party that sent him to the Senate for 18 years and actually nominated him for the vice presidency. Hopefully you now support and will vote into the U.S. Senate a real Democrat, not a false one.
LEONARD ABREU
West Townsend
Leonard Abreu of West Townsend claims Joe Lieberman is not a true Democrat. Mr. Abreu is apparently upset that Senator Lieberman supports the War Against Terrorism being waged in Iraq.
Mr. Abreu claims even though all the available evidence suggests everything Americans have been told regarding this so-called war is based upon false premises. Mr. Abreus use of words such as all and everything and his failure to cite one example of either some evidence or even one false premise indicates he is more likely emoting rather than thinking rationally. Much of the evidence related to Saddam Husseins intentions to obtain WMD was reviewed by members of the U.S. Senate including Senator Kerry who found it credible before he apparently found it incredible. President Clinton also stated Saddam Husseins lust for obtaining WMD, his use of WMD against Iraqi civilians, and his support to terrorist organizations. Am I to assume those statements by President Clinton qualify him as a right wing extremist and a false Democrat?
On my twenty-first birthday I walked 6 miles from my college dorm room to the city hall of the West Haven where I officially resided to register to vote. I registered as a Democrat because I admired many of the great Democrats of the late 1960sHenry Scoop Jackson, Hubert H. Humphrey, John F. and Robert F. Kennedy, and numerous others. Those men were real Democrats. I know Joe Lieberman and respect him because he is a Democrat in the mold of many great Democrats before him.
Mr. Abreu incorrectly states that Joe Lieberman
has deserted the party that sent him to the Senate for 18 years and actually nominated him for the vice presidency. What really happened is that control of the Democrat Party was wrested from the successors of the great Democrats of years past by left-wing radicals. Joe Lieberman and I did not desert the Democrat Party; it deserted us.
The Hartford Courant's editorial staff wrote a piece the other day which said that Lieberman is a JFK democrat. The Democrats of today are outright socialists leaning towards Marxism. The party gets loonier and loonier every month.
'tis is true, he acts and talks nothing like Kerry or Kennedy...
What? No BARF alert?
He voted 99.9% with the Demons. Id say he's a solid Demon.
Actually all available evidence suggests everything we were told was not based on false premises - overwhelmingly so - iraqdocs.blogspot.com is a good place for them to get started. This person has decided to embarrass themselves in public, I guess.
This Abreu is one ticked off nut case Dem. Actually said Lieberman is not a true Dem. The turkey must drink Koolaid by the gallon.
Yes, because social spending has so dried up in the last 6 years, hasn't it?
Sorry, I was laughing while I check my defensive perimeter to the northwest. I had always thought the really rabid and potentially dangerous nutcases were to the east and south of here.
Vote republican in the next general and then register as a republican for the next primary.
George W. Bush IS a democrat in the traditional meaning of that word. He's a better democrat than that party could have elected, on its own.
Having said that, we still need more republicans and fewer democrats. But they need to have cojones, like Bush.
Show how far gone the democrats are.
You read JFK speeches about defense, freedom and sacrifice and few dems sound anything like him.
The modern democrat party is run by left wing nutters.
Period.

Sean Hannity, et al, keep trying to make Joe into something he'll never be.
You are correct. The libs said there were no WMDS, and Hussein had no ties to Al-Qaeda. We now know he had hundreds of hidden wmds and strong ties to Al-Qaeda including a working agreement. I can't understand why all the libs are afraid to support the prez on those issues. President Clinton I mean, because all the Clinton-lovers never said Clinton was a liar when he claimed Hussein had wmds. And Kerry, and Gore, and Kennedy and all the rest of those Dem jugheads.
Oh, please... if only that were the case...! {Enough dreaming. Back to reality.}
"He has deserted the party that sent him to the Senate for 18 years..."
And here I thought it was the people of Connecticut that sent him to the Senate. How could I be so naive!
1. He largely supports the Iraq war effort; and
2. He opposes most filibusters of judicial nominees.
If anything, Lieberman is (otherwise) MORE liberal than he was prior to 1999. He moved sharply left in 2000 so as to accept the VP-nomination under Gore, selling out, for example, his erstwhile opposition to racial preferences ("affirmative action").

So, Lenny, just where is the EVIDENCE that Lieberman is closer to a Republican than to a Democrat? As another maverick (read: non-leftist-loon) Democrat, since departed, once remarked, you're entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own facts.
Is Lieberman quite as liberal as his fellow Senator, Dodd? No, just ALMOST as liberal. Not good enough in Blue-State America.
There is another way to express that most villified of all american political persuasions, the right wing. My favorite is the correct wing. Is that not right?
