Are Americans required to notify the State Department that they ever went to Lebanon in the first place?

I think U.S. government workers were required to preclear any trips to Lebanon (including vacations) with the State Department, according to the Travel Warning in place before the current hostilities began. Ordinary citizens could visit Lebanon as easily as they could any other country with which we have normal relations (subject to whatever visa requirements Lebanon has), and need not preclear anything with anyone.
You could currently visit Iran without telling a soul in the U.S. government. It would be foolish for an American to do so without a really compelling reason, though.

I don't think so, but I'm not sure. I had to get U.N. security clearance for my mission so I was registered with the U.N. That sure helped . . . .
