Uh, guys? Could we cut Rebel a little slack? If you were in his situation, wouldn't you be scared ****less? Wouldn't you be frustrated when you found out the airport and seaport had been closed? Wouldn't you feel like blaming somebody, anybody? Wouldn't you feel personally slighted when your home country took its time to rescue you? Wouldn't you, in the fog of war, swirl this whole war thing down into 3 words: "What about me?"
We can't know how he feels, but we could surely be a little more compassionate.

Thanks. I have to keep reminding myself of this.

Yes I would be scared, and I would be frustrated
with mostly myself. I have been in hairy situations, my instinct is to figure out a way out instead of playing the blame game. I would not expect my country to rescue me
I would be thrilled if they were able and did so. I would be saying "What about me?" but I would not expect others to think that way. I would not blame and blast the very ones who are trying and likely will rescue me when possible.
I personally detest the idea of blaming others when things go really wrong for me. I try to remedy the situation, then in retrospect I try to figure out what I might have done differently for future reference. I do not blame others when I am in a jamb, and do not expect others to save my hinney either. I am very greatful if someone does help me out of a tight spot, but don't expect or demand it.
Whatever happened to taking personal responsibility?

Wouldn't you feel personally slighted when your home country took its time to rescue you? Do you really feel the US "took it's time"? Or are you listening to CNN whose whole theme tonight is that?

Who said his home country was taking its time? Such an operation takes planning and just maybe there should be some consideration for the safety of the rescuers, ya' think? And yes, I'd be scared, but I wouldn't be looking for anybody to blame for my situation except the hezzies and my own stupid self for going there in the first place.
The State Dept. isn't a taxi service and, instead of bitching, I'd be grateful for any help I could get.
