However, I prefer not to be lectured to about why someone is considered half Jewish when in Judaism there is no such thing.
Do I have to say for a third time that technically, from a religious viewpoint you are correct, but common usage-wise, you aren't? Just go around to any of your non-Jewish friends (I'm sure you must have some) and ask them if a person is born of one parent that is Jewish and one who is not, whether your friend would say that person is 1/2 Jewish. I think you need a reality check as to how the word Jewish is commonly used among the "masses". I'm not saying that this isn't a usage based on ignorance of the Jewish religion. It is. But it's a misconception that the vast majority of non-Jews have. No value judgment attached, just the way it is, unless you choose to ignore that which is true.
Dumb argument....are you half-southern Baptist?
I happen to be one of sofaman's many Christian FReeper friends here in the same city he is in.
We understand what he is saying, it isn't that difficult.
I am not Jewish...and don't have any CLOSE Jewish friends..although I consider sofaman a friend..
And, I have been told since I can remember that Jewish lineage comes through the Mother...not the father...so, no Jewish mother...no Jew.
You might be thinking of the racist way some people think of black people..."one drop of black blood, makes one a black person"...I don't know.
But, you told sofa to ask his non-Jewish friends..and since I am one...I answered.
