Iran has a mutual defense pact with Syria and I suspect that within 72 hours they will be renegging on that defense pact.

I wouldn't count on that.

For whatever its reasons, Iran has been trying to provoke an attack against itself for over six months now.

It seem the only thing they aren't willing to do is attack unilaterally.

Thats just been Iammadmanjihad shooting his mouth off. If there is one thing that matters above all things in these middle-eastern dictatorships, its maintaining their dictatorship, because there is always some group or mulitple groups waiting in the wings to take over.

The millionaire mullahs and clerics who are the current power in Iran, in the end, will not stick their necks out and risk a french style revolution in their country.
If Syria gets bitchslapped by Israel, their #1 priority will be protecting their control over Iran, not having Syrias back. Iran's army is utterly useless in design to attack Israel. Its, as with all the middle-east dictatorships, designed to protect the government and its rule, not project offensive force outside its borders.

I can't say I agree with you on Iran asking for an attack. Many dictators spout crap (Hugo Chavez, Kim Jong Il) but they know they will be crushed if we actualy did something. We don't attack anyone just for the sheer joy of doing it. Iran is a joke of a country, much like every other country in the ME (Israel not included).

They can talk all day and night, but after witnessing what happened in Iraq, I can't see them being stupid enough to get involved.

Exactly right. They have been attacking quite strongly via covert modis operandi. One of their drones, Hizbullha, killed hundreds of U.S. marines in Beirut. Thank you Israel.

One wonders if they may have prepositioned 1-2 nukes (perhaps here in the USA as well?) and are waiting to be attacked with conventional weapons so they can retaliate in "self defense", perhaps even via proxies. If so, they may indeed be too fanatical to realize that, instead of becoming the lions of the Middle East, they will be reduced to a smoking wreck in a cataclysm that even Dante couldn't have dreamed.
