It's simple math. If 24% is almost a 1/4 of the Conservative count, as is said in the article, then the number of Conservatives polled is about 100.

Help me out here...

" 24% is almost 1/4"

and 1/4 translates to 25%

therefore, it is the same as saying 24% is almost 25%

Of the total number of conservatives polled- almost 25% of them said they would vote for a democrat.

Given the stats in the article, of the 789 registered voters, the actual number of conservatives polled is undetermined.
