In the long-term Asad might easily be followed by an Islamic regime even more hostile to Israel. I don't see how any regime could possibly be more hostile to Israel.

I don't see how any regime could possibly be more hostile to Israel. And even if Assad, Jr's successor ain't, how about those wackdoodles in Iran?
But taking Lebanon out of the mix is a good start. It will make it harder for Syria and Iran to attack Israel by proxy.

Precisely. Assad hides saying little to the international press that reflects his true acvtivies. If his successor is in the Hamas/Iran mode of frank talk with a little NK missle trigger finger added in, Damascus might become the satellite parking lot for the New Beirut Airport.
