In Gaza, Right Target, but the Wrong People Die
NY Times ^ | July 12, 2006 | STEVEN ERLANGER

Posted on 07/12/2006 5:20:53 PM PDT by SJackson

GAZA, July 12 — Israeli intelligence identified the correct target, a three-story concrete house on the northern edge of Gaza City where top Hamas military men were holding a meeting, including Muhammad Deif, the head of the military wing, sought by Israel for more than a decade, and Raed Saad, his top aide.

The Israeli air force hit the target accurately at 3 a.m. local time today, causing the back of the house to collapse into a concrete sandwich, while the front of the house teetered backwards, resting on the rubble behind.

But the top men of Hamas’s secretive military wing, who have held a captured Israeli soldier since June 25, escaped, although with apparently moderate injuries, even after another Israeli missile was fired on a car fleeing the scene.

Instead, the bombing killed nine members of the Salmiyeh family, a father, mother and seven of the couple’s 10 children, aged 7 to 18, who were on the upper floors of the house.

To hear the views of neighbors and onlookers, the attack was another example of wanton killing, of the Israeli disregard for Palestinian life.

From Israel’s point of view, the meeting was a perfectly justified target and another example of the irresponsibility of Hamas in putting civilian lives at risk.

"And when Israel does get Deif, civilians will die because they hide amongst civilians. The civilian deaths are on Deif's head"

there are no civilian Palestinians, they elected their war and became the same as combatants

Next time I'm running from the cops, I'm going to run into a Mosque and tell them that I want to convert.

I didn't even have to click the link to know that this was the AP or the New York Times, once again, right on schedule, shilling for their terrorist allies.

Looks like the NY Times's regret was a bit premature. Maybe they can give their hero a front-page obit. One of the worst corruptions from Vietnam was the erroneous notion that rooting for the enemy showed the world how broad-minded one is. Nothing could be further from the truth.

ML/NJ They bombed the Foreign Ministry at 2AM and all the injured seem to be under eight years old! Watch the videos on Fox. It's almost as if the Palis put out a call for everyone who has a child to have them ready for ambulance transport to a hospital. "Rescue" workers are shown carrying children, obviously awakened during the middle of the night, but otherwise exhibiting no obvious injuries. It's hilarious! ML/NJ

IMO, there are NO civilians in the war on terror. The terrorists have shown this on numerous occasions.

So, if you want to protect yourself, you need to treat every potential terrorist as a missile strike waiting to happen - get as far away as possible ASAP.

This family failed to do this & paid the price.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

Leave it to the NYT to find something negative about Israel. They cannot help themselves. It is is like them praising Bush or the GOP, they always have to throw in a negative into the article. They turn it around so what is good is bad.

Steven, what say the treasonous NYT people who were no doubt there helping to plan the Pali missions against Israeli innocents have to say?

Yeah, I just checked the copyright...1953. My father, however, was more of a Ellery Queen pulp magazine kinda guy. Never saw him as an Uris fan.

No Pali can be considered a civilian any more. They are deliberately put in a position to become collateral damage by their leadership, for political purposes. I hate seeing little kids hurt, but if these grow up they will be another generation of murderous thugs.
