".....are so profoundly immoral by today's standards "

That statement is at the very heart of the problem that I have with most modern interpretations of the Bible. Applying today's morals which are man made and highly changeable, retroactively to a society and way of thought 2,000 years ago appears to me a very dangerous assumption.

That assumption is based in the belief that some how, we are more moral and more correct as human beings that the laws that were set down by God. I do not feel comfortable with that "leap of faith". It sounds too much like "...we now know more than God".

I believe that even by first century standards thess laws were immoral.

I am no liberal, but I believe that Jesus did indeed repudiate the Mosiac Law.
