I think you need to be careful with the "destroy" part. Perhaps that is not the motive AT ALL.

Polly, it has to be "DESTROY" to them; they cannot accept the fact that people are beginning to catch on to this guy.

I wonder if we're just suppose to IGNORE the facts that are all over the internet just because some of these people put on hats and had their pictures taken with him?
