This is response ad from the Ernest Istook campaign to a negative ad made by the Bob Sullivan campaign. Here is the link again:

Good luck to Sen. Istook!
Hey I live in Oklahoma and your BOY isn't getting ANY pass until I hear loud and clear with no political waddeling where he stands!! I have watched him in congress and have seen some good things. But just like my dissapointment with "W" no ones gets a free pass antymore.
Istook needn't have bothered. Sullivan's ad is a huge turnoff, and is likely steering voters to Istook. On the other hand, Istook's "golly he has the nicest laugh" ad is fairly useless. These folks need to hire new ad agencies.
*Bump for Istook for Governor*
Istook in OK and Nussle in Iowa are a loss for the House and gains for repub gov's.
Thus, when 2010 comes around and Brad Henry is term-limited, Istook is the front-runner by a thankful GOP.
I've heard the GOP has had some problems with inept leadership in the OK House, which was giving them a negative image. Does anyone have any details on that ?
Unfortunately, I don't. Oklahoma politics isn't a field of study for me.
I've paid some attention to the race to succeed Istook in Congress. It seems that Lieutenant Governor Mary Fallin is the leader but will be forced into a runoff. I've heard about a messy divorce in her past.
Fortunately, DemocRATS don't have a credible candidate running.
And perhaps a U.S. Senate nominee. It seems likely that aging Senator James Inhofe will retire that year.

Inhofe's seat is next up in '08, not 2010. I'd imagine that the 'Rats would like to coalesce behind Congressman Dan Boren, who is one of the most Conservative Dems in the House (and is only 32). Boren's father and grandfather served in Congress (his dad's early retirement in 1994 allowed Inhofe to take the Senate seat when he did).
Frankly, I'd rather try to persuade Boren to switch parties (someone scoring in the mid 60s from the ACU really has no business serving as a Democrat these days). He previously worked as a staffer for another party-switcher, Wes Watkins.
The 5th district looks like a real barnburner for the GOP. Lt Gov. Fallin, Corporation Commissioner Denise Bode (whom I've been told is a bit of a nut), the sitting OK City Mayor Mick Cornett (I don't know much about him personally, but apparently he boasted that he won reelection for Mayor earlier this year with 87% of the vote -- however it does rather irk me that he would be simultaneously be running for a full term there and then for Congress), State Rep. Kevin Calvey (who boasts of an endorsement by a high-ranking Minuteman), State Rep. Fred Morgan, and a Urologist, Dr. Johnny Roy (a lot of Urologists running for office this year !).
I will be voting for Istook in the primary.
The mudslinging turned me off Bob Sullivan.
