Thank you for the insight. I do get the impression that the Asian/Arabic population is more influential, outspoken, hostile or what have you, particularly in the case of the Islamic presence, compared to here. BTW, forgive the ignorance, but what's the BNP, a nationalist, xenophobic element?

British National Party and, yes thats correct. Their leader is somewhat politically astute and has somewhat switched their anti-semitic roots to focus on the more vote-winning anti-asylum seeker/Muslim scaremongering (most of their campaigns feature demonstrably untrue 'facts' being propogated as truth).

My impression is that there are outspoken and hostile Asians/Arabs but they have difficulty exerting influence on their own communities, never mind wielding any real power. Most are pretty much normal citizens. There is a work ethic which makes them generally successful rather than disaffected.

Yeah, the BNP are the political wing of the thugs that used to plague the England team abroad, singing "No surrender to the IRA" and trashing bars. Real patriots, that lot.
