Door County Explosion Injurs Seven - Two More Missing
A fire chief in Door County says the area where three buildings exploded in Ellison Bay early today (Monday, July 10) continues to show rising levels of some type of explosive vapor.
Two people remain missing and seven others were taken to hospitals with injuries. Four of the seven have been transferred to a Green Bay hospital.
Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Chief Chris Hecht says a cottage and a maintenance building with living quarters at the Cedar Grove Resort were damaged, as well as the Pioneer grocery store. Hecht says local fire officials and state investigators are trying to find the source of the explosion.
The three buildings are located within about 100 yards of each other. The chief says a large number of the 50 or so people staying at the resort are family members or extended family.
Hecht says all buildings in the northern Door County region used some kind of gas, but they don't know exactly what caused the explosions at this point.
