Mm...a friend of mine has unpredictable seizures...some days, he's fine; some days, he's not. The seizures tend to screw him up for 12+ hours at a time (seizure lasts a few seconds, but the brain take a long time to "hard reset.") He takes more pills per day than I hope to in a year and they help, but they can't fix all the seizures. He wants to work, but no job will take him because he can't predict his hours. Plus, most non-government insurance won't pay for the drugs that he needs. So he's stuck on welfare, miserable.
What should be done with him?
Thats one out of the millions on welfare, hardly earth shattering or budget busting.
I drive down to visit my dad in DC periodically. On N. Capitol and New Hampshire Aves, there are guys selling newpapers to passing traffic. It is a program I think the Post started. They get the papers for free or reduced cost, and generate an income from them.
I do not have an employer. I made my own job. The fact that I employ 19 others to help me, is due to my ablity to recruit, train, and replicate my efforts.
It is a shame to say so, but it is not our responsibity to guarantee a livelihood to anyone. Beggars can't be choosers!
Charity is for the church, not the gum't! Socialists would say otherwise, but reality disagrees!
