Not to mention people who are struck by lightning or are electrocuted, their hearts routinely stop for several minutes before they can be restarted. They generally recover with no long term effects at all.

That's hardly the same thing as a patient who has been languishing in a hospital bed on a ventilator, showing no signs of awareness, and lots of signs of severe and permanent brain damage.

That would be very unusual. Do you have reference to any real patient in that condition?

See, that's like saying the rich should pay more taxes. Who gets to decide who's rich? Likewise one man's brain death seems to be another's physical challenge. When do you want to start harvesting the severely retarded?
