Madrid, 26 June (AKI) - A gay couple has filed for divorce - Spain's first case since the government legalised gay marriages last July. One of the men, a 43-year-old former model who stayed home in the role of "the perfect housewife," is claiming the right to live in the couple's home for the next fifteen years, custody of their dogs and a monthly 'pension' of 7,000 euros from his estranged spouse for the period since 1991 - allegedly to compensate him for the years he wasn't working.
The former model claims he took care of the house and the couple's two dogs, while his spouse was the breadwinner, in a traditionally heterosexual division of labour. The marriage apparently broke down when his spouse had to move to France for work, and due to domestic tensions subsequently moved out to live with another man.
In his request for a legal separation, the former model claims he had "dedicated his life" to the relationship and had given up the chance of working as a model - something he found "frustrating and depressing," as he claimed that at the age of 43 he was no longer able to find a job.
The pair is said to have enjoyed a comfortable lifestyle: they owned two cars, a villa and large garden, designer clothes, and took frequent cruises. They had been registered as a cohabiting couple since 2001 by the central Spanish municipality of Rivas-Vaciamadrid.

I am guessing they planned this to challenge the courts. But, as a point of reference, they were only married a slightly bit longer then Britney Spears - but she got it annuled...
[cue the Offspring--"Why Don't You Get A Job?"]
Is anybody surprised?
"Perfect," he says....
Truly now they're equal - with all the pains and trials of unstable marriages.
And the costs too... Lawyers will be very happy.

This guy sounds like he was the woman in this couple.
Will he be able to screw his "husband" over just because of that fact?
To challenge the courts how? In Spain, now, same-sex divorce is just as legal as same-sex marriage..
Thanks for the stirring words, Bet on Bozo's...

I'm surprised it took that long, and I'm also surprised anyone thinks it newsworthy or interesting that gay couples split up, and I'm always surprised that gays want the right to be as miserable as straights..
I don't understand why he quit his job to stay home. A lot of women do it when they have children. If you don't have children, what's to keep you at hope besides laziness?
It's not as if modelling is much of a strenuous job either.
"Are you Juan?"
"Ooooh, si, si! Are you Juan, too?"
;^)
Apparently two dogs. You know, home-schooling and house training ... takes a toll.
Gay couples, or same sex couples, are loving relationships. They love a lot, and love each other.....lovingly.
Newspaper articles, media reports and gay activists tell us so all the time.....they're loving relationships and all they want is marriage like any other loving couple. It's not about normalizing deviancy, it's not about trying to cash in on marriage benefits, it's not about indulging in your fetishes....it's about love.
So when I read things like this, my first reaction is to say, where's the love, man???
Ah, the downside of being a trophy wife.
Maybe the guy who was working just got tired of the model and his lazy *ss.
