The forces of the Old Empire are marshaling their counter attack against team Bush. They are throwing all caution (and discretion) away. This could be a real interesting weekend.
The most interesting guests to me will be the debate between Mitch McConnell and Dick Durbin. I can't understand what possessed ABC to give Mitch the opportunity to trash the turban... unless they have some FBI files loaned to them by Hillary? Stossel is also always fun, but they'll minimize him in the Voices segment. Watch Hagel and Karzai on CNN for clues to the counter attack against Bush and company to try to blunt their momentum. And watch for a deal to be offered on immigration between Pete King and the amnesty crowd in exchange for more funding for NY. Pete has to get reelected, dontcha know?
And watch the trash Bush hit parade on MTP. That is the leading edge of the counter attack. I'm betting that Timmah went to his contacts in the Democrat leadership and made it plain that he wouldn't sit still for losing to Steponallofus without fighting back. They either had to cough up some big guns or he was going to start courting the pubbies. It looks like the Dims complied, in exchange for a free hand to push their new message without any contrary voices.
The dominant meme appears to be that Bush has had a good couple of weeks in Iraq, so far, but it's now time to get back to all of the bad things that the media wants to concentrate on. Oh, and the Democrats may be totally in disarray and not have a brain in their heads, but it's obvious to everyone (in the media) what they need to do in order to win in November... isn't it?
Be advised - I'm posting this on Friday night and then going to bed. I've had a hard week trying to catch up from the trip to Boston and even managed to pick up a bug from a co-worker. I have a feeling I'm going to be suffering through a minor bout of something all weekend, so I'm going to get some sleep. I'll respond to you all in the AM.

I was surfing through some lib websites this week..and I found that Russ Feingold seems to be getting more and more popular, as Hillary and Kerry have disappointed the progressives...sigh.
Oh,...but, I even saw one post that suggested that Babs Boxer would make a great POTUS candidate!!!

and HIS new "talking point" re: the terrorist group in Florida??
"I thought we went to Iraq to fight them over there...and now we find out they are here...so, I guess Bush lied again..."
Also...of course he is appalled about the feds getting the banking transactions of terrorists.

Here is part of a post from yesterday which is a dialogue between Hugh Hewitt and Mark Steyn which was a great read: "Bill Hemmer: Well, what kind of a message are you sending them, if you're suggesting leave before that mission's complete?

Added to info re Karzai, he recently slammed the media and issued directives. This is to counter their glorifying giving the Taliban and conferring equal footing with those fighting for freedom. Of course, he's is being slammed by the lib organizations for squelching freedom of speech:

Also on Thursday, the Afghan president defended guidelines issued to news groups about reporting on the Taliban insurgency, saying some media were "legitimising terrorism" in their articles.
He said he would guarantee media freedom but his government was concerned about how some of the media were reporting on the insurgency by the Taliban movement.
Media guidelines
Karzai said: "Part of the media especially the electronic media are ... almost legitimising some acts of terrorism. That's what we're concerned about. That's what we are trying to correct."
The document containing the guidelines was sent to Afghan editors on Monday, prompting an outcry from rights groups concerned about press freedom as Afghanistan tries to establish itself as a democracy.
It says "terrorist commanders" should not be interviewed or the Nato and US-led forces criticised.
"These directives are an insult to the hard work and personal sacrifice of Afghan journalists who try to get the truth out to the public"

Stories of terror activities should not lead news bulletins and "enemy" statements which portray the government as un-Islamic should not be covered or the security forces portrayed as weak.
Some television stations have broadcast interviews with alleged Taliban officials who speak against Karzai's government and the thousands of international soldiers based in Afghanistan to hunt down Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters.
Other media prominently carry Taliban claims about attacks that turn out to be false or exaggerated.
The hand-delivered 24-point list was anonymous but understood to have been issued by the intelligence service which had summoned editors to a meeting on the topic last week.
'An insult'
New York-based Human Rights Watch criticised the notice, saying it should be immediately revoked by the government.
Sam Zarifi, the group's Asia research director, said: "The intelligence services restrictions are a blatant intrusion on the freedom of Afghanistan's fledgling media.
"These directives are an insult to the hard work and personal sacrifice of Afghan journalists who try to get the truth out to the public."
The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission said it was concerned but added that it had reservations about some of the media's reporting.

For those who have missed it, the cryptic references to astrology are not so subtle smackdowns of Kos' partner in crime, Jerome Armstrong, who apparently made his mark by using astrology to predict the future (though it may have been mostly after the fact). It appears he may also have used this "skill" to tout stocks and / or politicians, which Kos then conveniently began pushing on his web site (that last part may not have started till Armstrong was barred from doing stocks by the SEC and went into political consulting). Inquiring minds (at the DOJ) want to now.

I've never heard it said out loud) "fist pock" with a minor click between the syllables. It's from Larry Niven's early novel Protector. From the novel: "A hiss and snap of beak: Phssth-pok." Niven actually spells it Phssthpok, but that just seemed a bit much for me. <g>
I had not seen the material on Karzai complaining about the media coverage. All I heard was his complaints that could be used as attacks on us and the British. Why am I not surprised?
Great catch. I wonder if Wolfie will steer clear of this topic or tie it in with the controversy over the NY Slimes treasonous behavior?

I heard on Fox News a little while ago....that the Senate Judiciary Committee (Arlen Specter)...will be having "hearings" on the newest leak by the NYTimes..the tracking of the finances of terrorists...
THAT didn't take long, since the story just broke--Arlen must have broken a land speed record to get THAT hearing together...
Of course, the hearing isn't to find out who is a the bottom of LEAKING, or to find out if it is kosher for the NYTimes, LATimes, and Wall Street Journal...to go ahead and publish a story after being explicitly ASKED not to, by the POTUS/CIC during a time of war.
