You're welcome...hope you really enjoy it. I created that site because I knew of no other that had a list, with pictures, commentary, pics, specifications, and comparisons of all the current aircraft carriers in one place.

Feel free to leave a message in the guest book and to point others at the site as well.

Google shows the JFK carrier parked at Jacksonville Fl. with a F-14 Tomcat on the deck and wings swept back.

That is certainly true. Not to mention locating more remote facilities that it would be hard to do on the ground.

One thing a satellite can't pinpoint is the fleet lurking below the sea, which is where we still maintain a huge strategic advantage, smartweapons notwithstanding. Hail to the warriors of the "Silent Service."

Amen to that...although some technologies can in fact pic out submerged threats. I know we have this capability to a certain depth.

Nonetheless, our silent service, both attack and strategic, deserves our greatest praise, they are one of the most effective deterrents to agression that we possess, and our enemies know it.

Oh no!! Not the London Wheel!!! The turrists, why the turrists could, wait what could the terrorists do with this any differently than any other picture? These are basic consumer pics that in many instances are outdated. I think some people need to unwrap the tinfoil as it's on a little too tight. Perhaps revisiting how to build an AFDB may help. Looks like there was a mistake somewhere between steps four and six. Step five says

Place the cone on your head and squash the top and sides to make it fit snugly.

Again it does not say glue the cone to your head. It says "place". That way you can take it off and join real world every once in awhile...Got it?

I wonder what China is doing in secret?

Nothing good, I'll wager.

Eye on London. Now the terrorists can see for themselves that what looks like a honkin ferris wheel is just a really slow, boring & expensive tourist trap.

Unless you are being sarcastic about the ferris wheel...the context of those posts on this thread had nothing to do with the original posts about the PLAN. So the tinfoil hat comments were completely misplaced and unrelated to the posts about the ferris wheel.

The London Ferris Wheel was shown by one poster in a humerous post about the book and movie "Contact", the follow on posts were all related to that. Try and take those posts in the context they were given before you spout off and ridicule people with your tin foil hat references.

I stand by the other comments regarding the military bases. The pics of fixed assetrs on base, which could not be readily available to anyone without getting onto the base and picturing them illegally, coupled with the accurate lat and long of those assetts, can be used against us, wherever they come from.

Of course I was being sarcastic. You have to be when you see statements such as

IMHO, the department of defense should require goolge earth to blur out pictures of our vital bases post haste .

Do you not believe those that would do harm could find those pictures elsewhere? And as I stated many of these pictures are outdated. Even if they aren't, they would be freely available through another nation's military, unless of course you're suggesting we shoot down every satellite capable of taking photographs except US satellites. However I think a lot of nations would be rather upset at the US government if they did. But we'll put you in charge of that shall we?

Which makes pictures taken by one satellite and offered to the public sort of a moot point doesn't it? But hell let's allow the DOD or ___________(fill in the government agency) tell us what we can look at or not. That's what 'freedom' is all about isn't it?

When the Varyag arrived in China, it looked like it was in some sad shape. Rusty. Then later photos showed the carrier at dock in much better shape.

Floating casino? Yeah, right! Didn't the Chinese also scrap the HMAS Australia (CVL) and one of the Kiev class CVHG's? Sure bet it wasn't just scrap metal they were interested in.

We're at war. Nothing of this sort would have been, or should have been, allowed during a conflict such as WW II. The conflict we are embroiled in now has just as much potential, perhaps more so, of destroying our Republic.

Perhpas you didn't live through that, or don't know people closely who did. But we won precisely because it was viewed that seriously.

So, all of your smart comments aside...I stand precisely by what I said.

The info can be damaging, not because it is in real time (which it certainly isn't) or because it can track moving targets (which it certainly doesn't), but because it allows potential enemies very easy access to information they could not otherwise acquire so easily and gives them exact positioning for the assetts we have there. From any source, in a time of war, that is dangerous information...but you go ahead and keep living in that crystal palace. You have every right to do so, to feel as ou do and to your own opinion...as do I.

Regards.

I believe the Australian Carrier was the Melbourne. They did scrap her after extensive studies. They have two of the Kiev class which they have also studied heavily...but do in fact operate as theme parks.

The Varyag is much newer, and a much more capable design. The Casino holding company went out of business soon after the Varyag left the Ukraine and the PLAN took her over. They have been studying her, refitting her, and fixing her up ever since. The zinc chromate surface is a pretty sure sign she is going to end up operational to some degree or another.
