Didn't we recently announce a redeployment of troops from Okinawa to Guam at the request of the Japanese govt? I believe it's the Marines at that. If so it just goes to show how out of touch Murtha really is.

He really is out of touch. His sole, but not unimportant, value to his district is his ability to get pork for his district. The problem with pork is that is does not usually
get spread far and wide beyond the usual cronies. If the people of the district begin to see him as an embarrassment he could go in spite of long tenure.

I'm talking to myself. Yes in deed we're moving more than half the Marines on Okinawa to Guam and Murtha thinks we can reverse that and "redeploy there. What a buffoon.
After 10 years of negotiations, the United States and Japan finally announced a plan to move the airstrip's operations to a more remote part of Okinawa and shift 8,000 of the 15,000 Marines on the island to Guam.
But many Okinawans are not satisfied. They want the air station's operations moved off the island completely and are frustrated that the relocation won't happen until 2014.
