Its a lesson I thought all US Military in Iraq already had - they absoulutely CANNOT surrender. They can die, but if they surrender their fate will be terrible.

I had heard that the convoy that these men were in had been struck by IED. The Humvee the men were in were left as the other two vehicles pursued terrorist away from the scene. That left them exposed and were jumped by a group of terrorist waiting for them undercover.
I heard this on Rush the other day. I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere else though. The caller noted that it was a bad command decision to leave them unguarded.

They can die, but if they surrender their fate will be terrible. If one is rendered unconscious or otherwise unable to resist, one doesn't have much choice in the matter.
