Do you believe the bulk of the delegates were moderate?

Do you believe that the new president has particular gifts that might be useful at this time? Is he an unbeliever? What is it that he is moderate about?

Isn't it just a one year term?

I think that a large portion of the delegates were from churches with young Pastors who are trained more in technique than in solid biblical studies. I don't doubt they are saved or that he is. However they were not in the battle for the life of the convention during the late '80s and '90s when the liberal faction had infiltrated the home and mission societies as well as most of the seminaries. When the battle lines were drawn over the reliability of the scriptures, the person of Jesus and other classical distinctives and a commitment to them was demanded of missionaries and professors, there was an exodus of churches, missionaries and professors and in fact, Baylor changed its governing document to become independent rather than face this commitment.

From what I have read, this new president is part of the young pastors who are more irenic and willing to compromise than take the clear stand that the past administrations have had to take to maintain the SBC distinctives. They are second generation pastors living off of the spoils of the "cleansing" wars. They are more in tune with the techniques of church growth than nurturing and equipping.
