She upbraids women who stay at home for failing the feminist agenda And mothers all over the world let out a collective yawn.

I suspect that they still want babies to be born.....in a predetermined male/female ratio, and then shipped of to the social education and engineering center. They do. Check out the book, "Architects of the Culture of Death." Leading feminist 'intellectuals' want men and women to share gestation equally (supposedly a future technological possibility). And then children would be raised by the government.

Doesn't Ms. Hirshman realize that if only dumb women stay home and have babies and the bright women refuse to have them that the ratio of stupid/smart people will increase and the country will be populated by idiots.
Of course liberals already aborted THEIR children and thus begat the Reagan Revolution.

Well, she chose to get married, have children, and go back to work. I made the same choice, but I am not an angry, bitter bitch.

Try that for a generation and see what happens.

A true MALE atheist would be more like the lead character in Natural Born Killers. Pox>Morality does not arise from religion, but from within, IMO.
Well, if I recall my Sunday School and Bible correctly, it seems this is what Jesus held, too...there were obviously moral non-believers in his time, just as now. The fact that they're all to be cast into hell doesn't mean they are amoral or psychopathic...in fact, God seems quite willing to cast very decent people into hell, if they are unbelievers. Hell is separation from God, no?

GRRRRRRRRR
I sure hope she does not have any children. She does not deserve them.
To: Yaelle
More likely her mother was a miserable stay-at-home mother who longed for big-time career and blamed all her misery on not having one. Little Linda (not being very bright) extrapolated from this that ALL women who stayed home to raise their children would be miserable, and so they should all go out and have careers with no breaks at all for child-rearing, and then they'd all be happier like her mother swore she would have been if only she hadn't been trapped at home with little Linda. And frankly, little Linda may have been such an inherently revolting creature from the get-go, that it's possible her mother's misery was actually caused by being cooped up with little Linda.
To: wagglebee
Please tell me Linda Hirshman had no children of her own.

That's HER version of the "real intention of the feminist movement". Consider the source . . .
She upbraids women who stay at home for failing the feminist agenda, saying, They do not require a great intellect, they are not honored and they do not involve risks and the rewards that risk brings. Two questions for Ms. *sneer* Hirshman:
1. Whence the origins of successful, happy adults? Er, assuming they didn't emerge as adults from the mother ship, I mean.
2. OK, but what do you think about the children of stupid mothers?

You know what is funny? Since the feminists are generally evolutionists, they are admitting that feminism is a dead end and will die out.

I met one guy at work who didn't have nice things to say about his parents dropping him off at daycare during his youth. Sounds like a co-worker of mine. He doesn't want to have anything to do with his parents, but then again, they didn't want to have anything to do with him.

Probably, she wants children raised by the state so that they can be inculcated correctly and not with retro ideas like religion.

She upbraids women who stay at home for failing the feminist agenda, saying, They do not require a great intellect, they are not honored and they do not involve risks and the rewards that risk brings. She might be right about not being honored (occasionally), but dead wrong about the rest. Raising a kid to adulthood is one of the most challenging tasks I face. Next to that, designing an online system is trivial
