I turned my headphones way up in case it was a faint sound. Now that my ears are ringing, I have to wonder how anyone could not hear this. Did anyone else try the sound file and not hear anything?

Man, I never listened to loud music or used earphones, and it bugs me I can't hear this.

Now something I am thinking about. Years ago in certain stores I would hear this high pitched whistle, and it was very irritating. My mother would look at me like I was crazy, and tell me she didn't hear a thing. It always struck me as a manufactured sound, because it was so steady and predictable.

I am wondering if certain department stores used to weed out "undesirable" shoppers. I can't remember the particular stores - it was in a few, but I do know some of them were mall stores.

Maybe they were trying to discourage teen browsing. I wonder.
