Sunday games in the 2006 FIFA World Cup will kick off at 9 a.m. ET (ABC) in Nuremburg with a meeting between the only two winless teams in Group F, Japan and Croatia. They will face each other knowing that a defeat will put an end to their World Cup adventures.
In their opening match against Australia, the Japanese could not maintain a 1-0 lead and they were scored on three times in the last 15 minutes. Croatia's debut was not any better, as Brazil's Kaka scored to give the South Americans a 1-0 win over the Europeans.
In Sunday's other Group F match in Munich (11:30 a.m. ET, ABC), Brazil will continue the defense of its title in facing Australia, which enters the game with high hopes after earning its first ever victory by defeating Japan 3-1. In that game, Tim Cahill became a 'Socceroo' hero when he scored two goals after coming off the bench.
Leipzig will be the stage of Sunday's only game in Group G, pitting 1998 champions France against the Republic of Korea (2:30 p.m., ABC), with the pressure of improving on their first game in which they could only muster a scoreless tie against Switzerland.

Dude! You are hard on the French! *snicker*
My vacation begings at 1345 on Tuesday. We arent going anywhere, so I will be watching non stop Cup games. My wife is getting into it, too.
A friend of mine suggested that the US do what Latin America does during the Copa - just mandate half days. It's only every four years, and the capital markets would appreciate it, if nothing else, for audit and analysis.
Have a great "holiday", in the dominant futbol parlance.
Budweiser Man of the Match: PARK Ji-Sung (KOR)
Korea Republic's Park Ji-Sung was named Budweiser Man of the Match after scoring the equaliser in his team's 1-1 draw with 1998 world champions France.

Now, now... soccer (as reall men call it) - or what the limp-wristed types call "football" - is a perfectly fine game.
For girls.
Shut up you homo or are you a proud 300 pound plus steriod user in the NFL?
Please, go play soccer even in an adult league practically pick up game for 90 minutes and then come back and tell me it's a game for girls. You will be bruised, cut up and worn the he** out. You idiots who have never even played soccer at a competitive level have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Soccer is FAR more physical than baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, etc. In fact most sports (except hockey, lacross, and football--and in football one you have crap loads of protective gear on)
Ahh... exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
when does the USA play agin?
Thursday morning.

Brazil through after gritty Aussies give them a run for their money
Five-time champions Brazil advanced to the second round of the World Cup with a hard-earned 2-0 Group F win over Australia.
It took a 49th-minute goal from Adriano to unlock the stout Australian defence but the champions were given a big fright as Australia threw everything at them.
Substitute Fred had a simple tap in for Brazil's second on fulltime to wrap up the victory after Robinho shot struck the post.
"I am delighted that I was able to come on and score," said Fred.
"The team is still finding its feet," added the 22-year-old Lyon star, referring to another listless performance by Brazil.
Coach Guus Hiddink again went for all-out attack to save the match as he did in the last-gasp win over Japan last weekend.
Brazil's win extended their record of successive wins at World Cup finals to nine and has them poised to top the group with next Thursday's final match with Japan.
Brazil broke the deadlock four minutes after halftime when Ronaldo cleverly held on to the ball from two defenders and laid across goal to Adriano who evaded Scott Chipperfield and fired home for his first goal of the tournament.
But the Australians earned admirers in the way they pushed the Brazilians all the way with German referee Markus Merk not giving them much with his decisions.
Ronaldo was again substituted for the second match of the tournament to whistles from the crowd, but his replacement Robinho livened up things up front.
Hiddink pitched on attackers Harry Kewell and John Aloisi into the battle in the second half and Kewell came close to scoring a couple of times.
Dida and Viduka jostled for a high ball and Kewell had an open goal with Dida out of position but blazed over the bar in the 57th minute.
Substitute Marco Bresciano and Kewell both had breakaways but Brazil snuffed them out but Australia were having more of the game.
Kewell had another chance as he was put away by Viduka and his fierce volley was just over the bar.
Hiddink went for all-out attack, like he did in the first match against Japan, and brought on Aloisi for defender Craig Moore with 20 minutes left.
Brazil coach Alberto Carlos Parreira brought on two subs minutes later bringing off Ronaldo for Robinho and Gilberto Silva for midfielder Emerson.
Robinho just missed scoring in the 77th minute with a swinging volley as Australia's defence lived dangerously.
Bresciano brought a great diving one-hand save from Dida with 10 minutes left as play swung from end to end and Viduka hit the top netting with another effort with Dida beaten.
Referee Merk dished out five yellow cards - to Australians Brett Emerton and Jason Culina and Brazilian skipper Cafu, Ronaldo in the first half and Robinho late in the game.
When the referee blew fulltime Kewell remonstrated with him for half a minute over his display before he was pulled away by a team member.
Thankfully, some senior officers in the Navy think the same way that you do. They think soccer is a sport that you can't be hurt doing. They banned sailors from playing 'dangerous' sports like American football because we were too valuable of assets to be injured playing a game. We were able to play soccer because they thought it was a 'girly' sport. Lucky us. They were a little surprised by the number of injuries. But then it was too late, since the officers were playing it too. Soccer was the most popular sport of my submarine. Next was softball (because baseball was banned).
I see you are trolling. But at least you'll show your face to be flamed, unlike the cowardly keyword trolls. Just out of curiousity, have you ever played soccer? An adult game might change your opions of the sport. If you are in shape, it will give you a heck of a workout (you'll probably run more than 5 miles in 90 minutes, most of it short sprints). If you aren't, it will probably kill you.
Do you really have nothing better to do?
If you look inside yourself, do you not think it is just a little bit humiliating that this is how you get your kicks?
I think you need a hobby or something...
FIFA is standing behind the ref from the US ITALY game and they caution "don't be an armchair referee and try to interpret the rules"... IDIOTS!!
