Markos Moulitsas Zϊniga (born September 11, 1971), often known by his username "Kos", is the founder and main author of Daily Kos, a popular liberal political webblog. Born in Chicago, Illinois, to a Salvadoran Family, he grew up in el Salvador. In 1980, his family moved back to the United States due to the civil war. He served in the US Army from 1989 through 1992; during his military service he changed his political affiliation from Republican to Democrat. Afterwards, he attended Norther Illinois University, and recieved his law degree from Boston University. He is now a political consultant in Berkley California where he runs the Daily Kos.
