The Flag

The child just thinks it’s pretty, he hasn’t tied his heart,
The dog contented by his side, and glad he’s taking part.
The elders watch and smile at this, and at their memories,
While overhead, for every eye, Old Glory’s in the breeze.

The ones who served, and stood beside, the effort way back then,
Are proud to stand once more, with tears, to honor flag and men.
The flag has covered us so long, we see it every day,
It takes a special moment to remind us all to pray.

Dear God, observe us standing here, and see what we hold dear,
And grant us Peace, and love for You, for all our families here.
And for the men who stand elsewhere, give them the knowledge of,
The pride we have, that they would choose, this way to show their love.

Good Day, NnB. Happy Flag Day.

Thank you for another wonderful poem. I didn't ask for a new poem for the thread today because it wouldn't have given you much time.

I'm so happy that we have a collection of your poems to find at least one that will fit the occasion.

Thank you again for all of your contributions.
