Thanks for the simplistic linear thinking -- as though we've never heard it before. If Tom McClintock were not on the recall ballot, the recall would have lost. In recall exit polls a substantial portion of the people who voted for him said they turned out ONLY because he was on the ballot, enough to put the recall below 50% if they stayed home.

Based on your reasoning, proposition 22 would not have passed in 2000, let alone by 62%.

Here's another surprise for you. There is no great huge middle of the electorate. What changes elections in California is WHO DECIDES TO VOTE. The GOP's problem has been a lack of motivation for the conservative low propensity voters.

My prediction is that this election comes down like 1990. Arnold will poll high for a while, and then pull it off in a squeaker because the Dem candidate is so awful. "Volunteers" will be paid, like they were for Wilson in 1990.

If Tom McClintock were not on the recall ballot, the recall would have lost.

I sincerely believe that.

The reality of today is that if Tom is to win, he must be accepted by Arnold voters across the spectrum, and vice versa.

The elephant in the middle of the room seems to be that Tom actually does support Arnold, and understands the crazy demographics of this state.

Common Tator is a RINO supporter, big-time. Believes in the B.S. that the GOP must move to the middle in order to win.
