Ann Coulter Banned in New Jersey?

Two New Jersey Democrats are pushing to have Ann Coulter's new book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," banned from all bookstores in their state because she criticized four 9/11 widows known as "the Jersey Girls."

In a joint press release issued Friday, New Jersey Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender say they want New Jersey retailers to "ban the sale of [Coulter's] book throughout the state."

"Ann Coulter's criticism of 9-11 widows, whose only desire since the attacks have been to repair their shattered lives and protect other families from the horrors they have experienced, is motivated purely by petty greed and hate," the two Democrats complained.

"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books . . . She is a leech trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others."

Quigley and Stender conclude:

"No one in New Jersey should buy this book and allow Ann Coulter to profit from her hate-mongering. We are asking New Jersey retailers statewide to stand with us and express their outrage by refusing to carry or sell copies of Coulter's book. Her hate-filled attacks on our 9-11 widows has no place on New Jersey bookshelves."

They had a gay Governor that was married and had a child, and then wrote a book about going up and down the Parkway to find sex with other men....and was suppost to have gone with alot of women to have sex so he didn't feel so bad about his situation....


Maybe they should be thinking about banning that book. Or at least limiting it to adult book stores.

Oh My ..... wouldn't public book burnings provide more entertainment value? After all, we don't want books on our library shelves if they slander certain people or make them feel bad. Nor do we want citizens to be able to go and buy such books. Isn't censorship one of the values we have men fighting for in Iraq and Afghanistan?

If I was a book store owner in New Jersey I would use this as a sales promotion. I would have a big banner in the window saying, banned in Jersey, and a big supply of Ann's books below.

Someone should send these two women a copy of the Constitution with the First Amendment highlighted for them.

Did I say she did? I said if she did, then she is subject to a civil suit, not censorship. Under Falwell v. Hustler, it's dubious this was even slander - though it is crass, tasteless, and an embarassment to Ms. Coulter.

In the interests of disclosure, however, I should mention that I am not a fan of Coulter's. Not since I saw her lose a debate last year to Janet Reno - and Reno wasn't exactly a master debater either. While Reno had nothing but platitudes, those platitudes at least formed a coherent argument. Coulter had only insults, some of which made the entire audience gasp.

That would really teach Coulter a lesson. I remember at the height of the "Divinci Code" ruckus there was a book burning somewhere in Europe. I'm sitting here reading it wondering what kind of message it sent to the author for a bunch of people to BUY his book, then burn it to teach him a lesson.

Before you NJ FReepers come here to PA to buy the book, first give your retailers a chance. If they are carrying it, reward them with a purchase.

If they are not offering the book for sale, send them a copy of your receipt from an out state location where you do buy it.

It'll p*** them off and they'll know that they lost a sale.
