What actually happened was that Coulter and the veteran, a man named Cullen, were set up to debate the Vietnam war. Cullen was the leader of an anti Vietnam war group, in much the same way as Kerry was. During the debate, Coulter said to Cullen, speaking about his views, "No wonder you guys lost the war".
