2nd Thoughts (Roadmap To Reform -- Pa.)

A newly formed coalition in support of a big change in Harrisburg is asking for a "Roadmap to Reform."

Nine organizations representing the right, left and center of politics has amazingly agreed on 10 methods the legislators can do to get things done.

The organizations proposing the "Roadmap to Reform" are: Common Cause Pennsylvania; Commonwealth Foundation, Democracy Rising PA, League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Citizens for Legislator Accountability, Pennsylvania Council of Churches, Rock the Capital, Stop the Illegal Pay Raise Inc. and Young Conservatives of Pennsylvania.

They want the reforms in place before Oct. 1. Key elements of the "Roadmap" include:

--Banning lawmakers from taking gifts and entertainment from lobbyists.

-- Posting all legislative votes for the public within 24 hours.

-- Passing an open records law for the legislature.

-- Requiring the posting of lawmakers' expenditures and salary/benefits information online.

-- Making lawmakers' health care insurance benefits consistent with the private sector.

-- Banning fundraisers while the legislature is in session.

-- Authorizing and funding a constitutional convention to explore further reform.

The "Roadmap to Reform" also includes a call to convene the state's first general Constitutional Convention since 1873.

The complete reform agenda can be reviewed at www.democracyrisingpa.com.

I can think of a few more things to add, and I probably will in the weeks to come.

For the past 30 months, Marty O'Brien and business partner Hal Koster have made their thick steak dinners and a night of bottomless drinks at Fran O'Brien's Steakhouse in the Capital Hilton one of the rites of passage for the soldiers who are steeling themselves for their postwar lives in wheelchairs or with prosthetic limbs.

Well, the Hilton has put the kibosh to that.

# 1 on the roadmap to reform should be to vote "Fast Eddie" Rendel out of office in November! Guy acts like he's "Joe sixpack" when he is left of Lenin. Never met a tax he didn't like. When he was mayor of Philadelphia he actually floated the idea to have people living in the suburbs pay a tax for living near the city!

When Fast Eddie ran last time he actually came to our small town here in northern PA. I saw his bus and almost passed out. Couldn't believe he could lower himself to come here but the next day in the paper...there he was (you're right) acting like Joe Sixpack!!
He was here about a month ago at a local manufacturing plant suggesting he was responsible for them doing so well. What a crock!! What's sad is that people actually believe his crap.

Well Eddie has "a little help" from his friends in the media when it comes to putting on that persona.

Yup, haven't seen "Fat Eddie" for 3 years except on the Eagles shows on CN8. . .now he's on the local news every night and his endless commercials about out of control unemployment.

Ever notice the scale? Unemployment starts at 4.7% and ends at 5.2%. Good thing Fat Eddie came along to save us, right?
