Not to hijack the topic or anything, but I've never seen Dr. Phil, and I highly doubt that I ever will, certainly not voluntarily!
Try Don Pepinos. It's actually in an can, but it's good. My husband was really shocked--and a little hurt, I think--that they could make it better than he could. And it tends to be the least expensive of all the store tomato sauce. Stores are beginning to stock it more now. It used to go just to restaurants, I think. You usually have to look high or low for it. Because of the price, the stores want you to grab something more expensive. August in a hot kitchen does not sound fun!
People don't seem to know how to cook any more. We have a neighbor with a six year old child, and when we had them over for dinner, the woman seemed astounded by a simple roast chicken. She'd never done an entire chicken before.
=8-(
They don't offend me either at all. :-) Dumb parents do.
Dr. Phil is disgusting. How anyone can watch him is beyond me. Is he still pudgy? Typical pot and kettle.
OMG. Roast chicken is the easist thing in the world! That's just sad.
I'll have to look for it. I just hate stuff loaded with preservatives.
If that's your belief, what are you doing on a constitutional conservative website?
Sorry, I'm going to have to agree with the caller on this one. I'm basically independent / conservative, and like most people on this forum, a big part of that is thinking for myself. But the sad fact is that most people would rather chew glass than use their brains, and are perfectly willing to indenture themselves to anybody who will do their thinking for them.
How do you make one? I can never cook chicken right but would love to do so 'cause it's so cheap.
I had recently begun making my husband real banana cream pie too. Although, disclaimer here, I bought the crust. It is so much better--and not hard to make. Just have to stir that custard awhile. I love the fact that your dad snuck the sugar cereal while you were at camp. I find that hilarious! It saddens me that my husband can't eat it anymore. Diabetes runs in his family--his grandmother lost her legs to it and his aunt starved herself to death with it. But we're learning that there's good things that he can eat--and we need to make them from scratch, not a hard thing to do.
Easy, and when done well, the BEST thing in the world. I think it's one of the top reasons my husband married me. :) So many people used pre-prepared food now, something they can get on the table in minutes, and they assume scratch cooking is a lot more time consuming, which usually it is not.
But really, people think some things are miraculous, like making your own pie crust or scratch biscuits, things our grandmothers could do in their sleep (and often did....)
Bright yellow can. Hard to miss. I'll ask hubby about the preservatives to be sure.
My parents used to make home made apple sauce from apples we collected from apple picking in Vermont. MMMMM!!! Not only was it tasty, the whole house smelled great. Every autumn.
I know, I really didn't mean to suggest that it did you. I just meant that if thats what they want so be it. I have enough to worry about with raising my own family and no time to get involved in others and the last thing I want is Government to raise their family because soon it will be mine......
On what rational basis might one conclude that the bureaucrats tasked with doing the "thinking" for others are any more capable than those for whom they are "thinking?"
My sis and I used to have friends over for lunch when we were in grammer school and were allowed to go home for lunch (couldn't leave the building in high school!) and my mom would be at work so we just through some PB & Fluff together. When they reciprocated their moms would be making hot lunches! Wow, did I feel silly. Loved that Fluff though. Ever eat it w/ a Pepsi? It was like Pop Rocks.
ping
We just canned the raw tomatoes. We also canned beans and made pickles.
I don't know how people can eat that pre-packaged stuff with all the preservatives.
I certainly had peanut butter sandwiches (enough to build a skyscraper from them, it seems) and I don't understand why every kid seems to be allergic to it these days, when we boomer children ate it non-stop.
But Fluff is beyond my culinary experience, and Pepsi is just .... nasty. When I order a diet Coke in a restaurant and they say "Diet Pepsi ok?" I switch to iced tea. I don't drink sugared sodas.
