Updated at 3:42 p.m. Thursday] ANTIOCH -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Thursday there is a possibility that he might endorse Democratic candidates in other statewide political races.
"If I like someone, absolutely," the Republican governor said in response to a reporter's question inside the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall at a campaign even in the Delta town near the banks of the San Joaquin River. "Let's see. But right now, I'm just thinking about moving the state forward."
Schwarzenegger's campaign manager, Steve Schmidt, said in an interview later, however, that the governor has endorsed all of the down-ticket Republican candidates - Tom McClintock for lieutenant governor, Chuck Poochigian for attorney general, Bruce McPherson for secretary of state, Tony Strickland for controller, Claude Parrish for treasurer and Steve Poizner for insurance commissioner.
The campaign left open the possibility that Schwarzenegger might endorse U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein in her re-election bid against Republidcan challenger Richard Mountjoy.
"Like most Californians, he thinks Dianne Feinstein is a great senator," Schmidt said of the governor.
California Republican Party Chairman Duf Sundheim declined to comment on the governor's thoughts on the Democratic candidates, saying it's only "a theoretical thing" at this early stage of the political season.
"If there's something specific, then we'll address that at the time," Sundheim said.
Schwarzenegger, at his campaign stop in Antioch and in events Wednesday in Redding and Chico, praised the bipartisan spirit that he said catapulted a $37 billion infrastructure bond package for transportation, flood protection, education and housing.
The governor has publicly embraced the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, Tom McClintock, but may appear to be less comfortable with some of McClintock's fellow conservatives who won down-ticket races.

Most Californians are nuts. There is NOTHING to like about Frankenfeinstein.

it's only "a theoretical thing" ..
Thanks Duf, I feeeel better already.
??
What the Hey!
Is the Gubby deliberately trying to scuttle the rest of the down ticket chances? Criminy!
"Most Californians" don't even vote. But about the only way to consider Feinstein a great senator is by comparison with Barbara Boxer, who could make a head of cabbage look intelligent.
FYI
Phhhhhhht!!!
I think Mountjoy outta mount Schwartzenegger!!!

He has to go after his base for votes, way out leftie socialists.
(Denny Crane: "Every one should carry a gun strapped to their waist. We need more - not less guns.")
I didn't vote for this clown last Tuesday and I won't be voting for him in November.
Better not come against MOUNTJOY.........that would be a slap at the party to endorse DI FI!!!!!
The headline isn't news. News would include his backing of (non-RINO) Republicans.
Just when you start to like Arnold, he pulls this. However when I look at the alternative I have go back to him. I guess Arnold is like your wife. Sometimes you love her and other times you are not so sure, but over all its about as good as you can get. Considering everything, Arnold is probably the only Republican that can get elected in CA.
I can't go that far. Angelides would accelerate the harm. But I certainly understand your feeling burned by Ahnold.
I'm a Californian, and I don't think Feinstein is a good senator, let alone a great one.
I held my nose and voted for Schwarzenegger in the Recall, but won't vote for him this coming November. He is, for all practical purposes, a Democrat. Even the epithet "RINO" doesn't work for Schwarzenegger, because he's hardly even a Republican in name.
I wouldn't be surprised, Norm. He disses Republicans every chance he gets. I genuinely don't know why this guy ever registered as a Republican, because he clearly isn't one. He's done squat to help rebuild the party in this state and seems almost embarrassed by Republicans.
