TRENTON, N.J. - Commentator Ann Coulter's incendiary words about outspoken 9/11 widows have led two state lawmakers to calls for a boycott of her book in the widows' home state of New Jersey.
Assemblywomen Joan M. Quigley, D-Hudson, and Linda Stender, D-Union, on Thursday called on New Jerseyans to stop buying the book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," and for retailers in the state to stop selling it.
"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books. By making these claims, she proved herself worse than those she is attempting to vilify - she is a leach trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others," the two assemblywomen said in a statement.
A spokeswoman for Crown Forum, the publisher of Coulter's book, did not immediately return calls for comment Thursday.
In her new book, Coulter writes that a group of New Jersey widows whose husbands perished in the World Trade Center act "as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."
She also wrote, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."
The comments drew criticism Wednesday from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., who said the book should be called "Heartless," and New York's Republican Gov. George Pataki, who said he was stunned by the remarks.
Coulter appeared Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show and stuck by her stance, saying the women used their grief "to make a political point."
Her criticism was aimed at four New Jersey women she dubbed "The Witches of East Brunswick," after the town where two of them live.
The women - Kristen Breitweiser, Lorie Van Auken, Mindy Kleinberg and Patty Casazza - have spent the years since the 2001 terror attacks supporting an independent commission to examine government failures before the attack. During the 2004 presidential race, they endorsed Democrat John Kerry.
Probably pretty good if any of the brats took after their father.. How BAD they felt for their mother dancing on their fathers grave.. you overlook.. The mothers actions slap in the face their fathers acts.. by making it a political sacrifice.. The fathers were VOLUNTEERS, not impressed into duty by the draft..
BINGO you got it..
Bingo,, man you're "ON" today.. beautiful..
Or YOU are...
Because New Jersey is a criminal enterprise..
....definately not as romantic as strawberries and whip cream.
At least the Jersey Girls were actually able to attract and keep husbands.
Or DO YOU what she knows.. or don't know.. only what she wrote.. If it were true you'd be talking out the other side of your mouth.. They're husbands are rolling their graves.. they were VOLUNTEERS..
SOoo you ARE jealous?.. I see.. (laughing like Scooby Doo)..
D'ya think we can get them to make the same call for "Heather Has Two Mommies"? /rhetorical
"[ Why do you have to attack the entire state of New Jersey ? ]
Because New Jersey is a criminal enterprise.."
The corrupt politicians in NJ arguably are part of a criminal enterprise but the common people are not. They are good and bad, just like everyone else. Some of the kindest, friendliest and most generous people live in NJ and so do some of the worst.
The state itself runs the gamut from intensly beautiful to downright ugly. You can find pristine mountains, streams, beaches in some areas and grimy urban landscapes in others.
Two of the top four richest counties in the United States are in New Jersey as are some of the poorest cities.
Some counties are reliably Republican while others always vote Democrat.
NJ is a great state with tremendous diversity. It has some serious problems (particularly with its politics) but it also has many things that make it a great place to live.
My original point was that painting the whole state and it's people with a broad demeaning brush is BS and totally ignorant.
You're right. I "boycotted" DiV Code, and BB Mt. But to have two elected officials urging people to boycott a book is...excuse the expression...a "chill wind."
Good point!
The section of the book dealing with the Jersey Girls starts on page 103 and is too long to quote and any attempt to shorten would do it an injustice. The "divorcing" comment is on page 112 and is one sentence "And by the way, how do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies?" I've read up to page 198 and the only unfair comment I've read was using Cindy Sheehan as an example of a body type to not wear shorts. As with all Ann writes, it may be true, but is a bit of a low blow since Ann has rebuked the dems for attacking conservative womens' appearence in the past.
The politics in New Jersey is a criminal enterprise because of the politicians and "the People", elect the polticians.. Maybe the polticians are the criminals and the people are stuck on stupid.. Either way New Jersey has the best givernment money can buy.. because "the People" WANT IT THAT WAY..
Could be said of the federal givernment too..
They were NOT drafted..
Everything does NOT have to be NICE "Dorothea" and Oz is fiction.. Grab ToTo a whirlwind is coming because Ann Coulter looks the evil democrats and some evil republicans in the face and "spits"..
The "nice" WITCHES and the "evil" WITCHES are WITCHES...
What would YOU do.. give them the evil eye, a hard look?..
They would laugh at you(the liberals).. Those witches are being used like rented donkeys.. whether as dupes or on purpose means nothing..
Is pillorying evil a bad thing?.. d;-)~',',
They weren't drafted? Have you all lost your minds or what? I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.
Do you even know what their husbands did? Draft isn't a word that comes to mind.
They were government employees..
The impeached *Crintons are excluded, I'm sure...
Hmm, not raw oysters?
