If a pipe breaks in my house, I shut off the water. That doesn't mean I intend to do without water from now on. It just means I need to get the leak under control before I let any more come down the pipe.
Some sort of moratorium on immigration for a few years till we figure out where we are would not be unreasonable. By then we could put in place something similar to the systems that Australia or New Zealand have, where an immigrant needs to have something to offer TO his new homeland rather than what he can take FROM it.

Then that debate needs to be out in the open. Then organizations like Fair and its 6 spin offs need to come clean on these media shows. I for one think that having a population of 150 million in the USA like many of the folks in these groups is insane. I can't believe at times that while everyone is making fun of Al Gore that some of these Environmental extremist are getting a foothold in the Republican party and the conservative movements.

But the point is this. Do we want to be like the Australia or New Zealand. This Country has always benefited by immigration. Immigration that just didn't include the "important" or "smart" people. Thats in part what has given us our drive. If people want to change that then we need to get that into the open and debate it.
