Basically similar to the Presidents. First get them out of the shadows so we know they are here. That should cut down on crime right there. Illegal aliens often remind me of guys I knew that had bench warrents for some minor stuff and they never took care of it. It seemed to fact that spent all there time trying to avoid some bench warrent for DWI for instance or some silly battery just got them into more trouble.

Second have some guest worker program that can be reviewed on a bi annual or quarterly basis. That way the numbers can be increased or reduced in antcipation of economic forcast so not to hurt the American worker. This also should cut down on the migration of entire families here if they can be assured they can come back for these seasonal jobs. Therefore the pattern of circular migrationwill be reestablished.

As to citizenship. The Criminal with serious records get deported. The rest if they keep there nose clean pay fines taxes learn English etc, keep steady employment can apply for citizenship if they want in twelve years or so. If people want to restrict this to people that have wives or children here I am fine with that. Those are the people I am most concerned with anyway. The rest can apply for it just like anyone else in the World

Of course none of this will work unless we have some proper and tamper proof ID and controls. I don't have a problem with that and heavy fines to employers that go outside this system.

Let me say up front that I support President Bush but not Senate Bill S2611.

Unlike many who have posted on here tonight I actually followed the Senate debate from start to finish.

S2611 is way to over reaching and complex.

The bill relies on a lot of promises that may or may not be kept.

The only thing for certain in S2611 is that amnesty and lots of free benefits will be given to millions who did break the law in some form to get into the United States.

It will require thousands of additional government workers just to implement all the paperwork associated with the amnesty provisions.

The cost in dollars for everything called for in the bill is astronomical up into the billions and billions.

It lays the responsibility for stolen identifications not on the backs of the illegal aliens but on the original ID holder.

Senator Ensigns amendment to the bill would have given relief to more than 800,000 who are now having to deal with ruined credit histories and being billed for back taxes.

I will not go on as I must get up early for appointments.

Observation and just my opinion:

I have two foster sons who were born of two different sets of illegal parents.

My preference is for a strict enforcement of border security.

Instigate a workable temporary guest worker program.

We can not deport nor should we deport all illegal aliens.

Those who can verify that they have established a clean working record for the last 5 years should be given the opportunity of applying for a green card.

They should be required to learn English at the very least.

I would suggest a fine of sufficient amount and a reconciliation of their breaking the law with a 5 year probationary sentence.

When the probation is served then the records should be expunged and the citizenship process allowed to go forward.
