I think you mean "prescribe". "Subscribe" is what one does with magazines, not pills.

Words cannot describe the selfishness of this woman. Reminds me of the Nazis and the "final solution", totally devoid of humanity. How can someone just murder another person, especially her own child, so indiscriminately and then blame it on politics?

May God have mercy on her soul.

She does say, "After making the decision with my husband....". I'm not sure what "wearing the pants" means, exactly, unless he should have locked her in the basement to make her abandon her career and complete the pregnancy.

While we might not agree with the validity of their decision (in fact, we don't even agree that this story is real), they did apparently make the decision together.

MHGinTN: "Ah, but you'll say 'I don't hate anyone' won't you!"

Ichneumon: "Right, because I don't. If you keep up this kind of belligerent childishness...

LOL, you come here and throw personal insults at every poster who dares criticize this 'true' little story. No, you don't 'hate' anyone. What do you call it, 'despise'. An adult would come in and deal post rationale arguements. A belligerent child would come in throw about unprovoked insults.

Because most people are ignorant that these are two entirely different things, and don't bother to find out the facts about it. That's why.

I was confusing subscribe to an ideology with prescribing pills (typing too fast, lol). But actually, your "attention" to certain details is rather odd considering the scope of the discussion.

"I did a little searching for weather history on the day of the Cherry Blossom parade and assumed that the writer was referring to the 2006 parade, which occurred on 10:00AM, Saturday the 8th of April."

And were you here in Washington that day? I was. I could barely see through the windshield with wipers going full tilt as I was driving my brother-in-law and his daughter to Union Station. We remarked on how sorry we felt for the parade participants. The ride home on 395 was pretty treacherous in the heavy rain.

So.... were you here? She does get that part of the story right, I can attest, whatever the problems are with the rest of her article.

What a disgusting read. Apparently this self centered 40 plus year old bitch thinks she is more important than multiple 16 year olds who would obtain the pill over the counter. Which was why her precious program was and should be kaboshed.

Nobody forced her to have an abortion. She and her spouse did that all on their own. She simply doesn't want to take responsibility for it.

She's blaming the President and religious people for her carelessness about her birth control method.

Just when you thought you'd read it all... ping.

Thank you, I was about to say exactly that, but you did it so much better than I could have. Thanks again.

I feel sorry for the two children this amoral person has. They don't have much of a chance to grow up with a decent set of values.

Attention to detail is a big part of my job, so I often don't hit the "off" button on the weekends. ;)

Well, I guess that is what illegal aliens are for, inserting diaphragms into citizens who won't do it for themselves.

LOL!!!

You know....I truly thought I was at the point in my life of no shock, surprise or 'you've got to be kidding'....!

I'm not.

This woman has a lot of nerve!!...a lot of brassy nerve !!!

I really can't think of the words I want to print..... I am so livid!!!!

Woman, you are certifiable!....and it's not Bush's fault!!

Her point is a valid one, even if you wish to sidestep it, and even if there are other parts of her essay which are poorly argued. The "Plan B" contraceptive should be available, and is being blocked unnecessarily due to misunderstandings and knee-jerk objections, many of them based on religious premises.

I don't recall making a point either way on the issue that you say I sidestepped.

I do know that everyone in life has choices, no? I also read the she, not Bush, not me, not you, nor anyone else on this MB, or anyone in political power in her state, forgot her diaphragm. Or am I wrong there?

Perhsps some government programs to force her to use her diaphragm. What do you think!

Better yet, why not just allow parents to look over their babies after birth and then dip them in acid if they're not fully satisfied with the result!

Right? I mean after all, if it's all about the "convenience" of fully grown adults not looking to be "inconvenienced" in their lives, then I'm sure you're all on board here.

BTW, where's inkling? Waiting for a polemical pair to drop?

Disregard inkling.

"Because most people are ignorant that these are two entirely different things, and don't bother to find out the facts about it. That's why."

I take it your brother-in-law's "daughter" is not your neice? A lot of people notice "details", sometimes more than you think.

Anyway, please read the following:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first approved this off-label use of oral contraceptives in 1997. The first brand to receive approval, Preven™, contained both estrogen and progestin hormones. While Preven™ is no longer avialable as a brand product, other combined estrogen/progestin oral contraceptives can be prescribed by physicians for this purpose.1 The second brand approved by the FDA is Plan B™ - a progestin-only product packaged specifically for this use. There is general consensus in the medical community that these pills can operate in one of three ways:2

To delay or prevent ovulation (the release of the woman’s egg)
To prevent sperm from reaching the egg, preventing fertilization and acting as a contraceptive
To alter the lining of the uterus (endometrium), preventing implantation of an early embryo after fertilization
This last point is one of major debate and one that pivots on the definition of pregnancy. Traditionally, fertilization — the joining of sperm and egg to form a zygote — is recognized as the beginning of pregnancy. Biologically, fertilization marks the creation of a genetically complete human being that only needs time, nourishment, and a place to grow.3 However, groups like the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists define pregnancy as “beginning with the successful implantation of a fertilized egg.”4

Based on the fertilization definition of pregnancy, "emergency contraception" can cause an early abortion. This is information women have a right to know before taking the pills.

For more information on the possible abortifacient effect of EC, see: C. Kahlenborn, et al., “Postfertilization Effect of Hormonal Emergency Contraception,” The Annals of Pharmacotherapy, March 2002.

Dana L. is a lawyer and writer . . .

How did she manage to get through law school, become a writer, a 42-year-old happily married working mother of two and still not realize actions have consequences?

"I take it your brother-in-law's "daughter" is not your neice?"

Good catch; she is indeed my niece. I have known my brother-in-law for years, but had not met her before, so I probably haven't gotten used to that as a relationship yet.

Or else I didn't want to take the chance of spelling "niece" wrong. ;)
