I am a military pilot, and cell phones do not interfere with zip. Pure bullshit.

Probably charge $20 a flight for access.

They already offer XM and Direct TV for free. IMO, entertainment options like tv are a calming sedative for passengers, preventing jet rage, better than liquor.

If I leave my phone next to the CD player/Radio in my kitchen, it really screws up the AM reception. So I see what you mean.

Will they have to do something to the cockpit to keep that from happening when they start allowing cell phone use? Or will they install some sort of antenna to channel the cell signals to the ground?

As far as I'm concerned, the myth of cellphones interfering with aircraft avionics was thoroughly debunked on Mythbusters. This confirmed what I--as a former Naval Avionics Technician--already suspected.

Thank you for your service--I served (years ago) in HS-5 down there at NAS Jax (When they were still flying SH-3H's).

Perhaps military radios are better than what is in the Cessna I fly on Saturdays. If I forget to turn off my cell, it chirps in my headset, very VERY loudly.

Cellphone - the bane of the nosey-ninny. "OMG someone is talking and I, I have to hear it!!!" /Smack

Since when did expecting common courtesy make one a "nosey-ninny"?

Having a loud conversation (and cell phone conversations are almost always loud, because of the limitations of the speaker) in an enclosed public space is rude.

Nothing wrong with expecting courtesy, but some of you folks want to legislate it.

Worse that you probably wouldn't complain if someone farted in an elevator, but you'd be more than happy to berate someone using a cell phone.

Straw man. Nobody has suggested that here.

You aren't seriously equating a cellphone conversation with an involuntary bodily function, are you? That's silly.

I have nothing against cell phones. I couldn't get along without mine - cancelled the hard line phone years ago and never looked back - but there are many places I wouldn't dream of using mine to make a non-emergency call.

"Straw man. Nobody has suggested that here."

Not a straw man, but you are right it isn't exactly legislation, it's more like nanny state dictates from the FAA or FCC, but too many "conservatives" advocate and support them. It is absolutely and completely relevant to my initial reply which you commented on. So stuff your "strawman" man.

"You aren't seriously equating a cellphone conversation with an involuntary bodily function, are you? That's silly."

When farting is completely involuntary, you're probably too old to hear loud cell phone conversations anyway. The point is is that there are some people who "society" has made it ok to berate. Smokers, cell phone users, and SUV drivers are harrassed daily by ninnys and then turn around and proclaim themselves as "more courteous" than the person they just verally berated in public. Courtesy says you keep yer nosy azz mouth shut!

Your victim complex isn't really relevant here.

Nobody has suggested any legislation to regulate phone calls. That you instantly sprung to such a connection makes the argument, yes, a straw man.
