i am just trying to imagine the blast area (i.e. beyond the crater, 300 mi diameter there already) from such an impact. could be an area thousand+ miles diameter of tunguska-type devastation.
I wonder if that impact noise would have covered the world? been defeaning at the opposite end of the world? surely would have been felt all over the world.
maybe some math models on the possible meteor impact area/effect will be put together later.

I hope to shout that will leave a mark! Better put some ice on it....

Don't ask me why there wouldn't be an irridium layer, I don't have a clue I wonder if an impact created from lunar rock would leave an iridium signature.

I don't think there is an irridium layer associated with it. Don't ask me why there wouldn't be an irridium layer, I don't have a clue Another hypothesis .... an ice impact wouldn't leave iridium signatures either.

300-mile wide crater?
Obviously, the dinosaurs are extinct because they didn't wear seatbelts.

KILLER CRATER FOUND UNDER ICE Craters don't kill people! We have to learn to look for root causes!

That's why it's hard for me to believe that the universe contains thousands of earth-like planets. Life on earth has gone through so many, catastrophic mutations that the odds of intelligent life elsewhere are much slimmer than popularly thought.

I prefer to see the glass as half full. Intelligent life survived despite these catastrophes. Nature is resilient.

given what the more accepted chicxulub impact did 65m years ago. The Chicxulub impact killed the Dinosaurs hypothesis is not more accepted, in fact the opposite as it is easily debunked (Honeybees & Alligators anyone).
It's pretty popular in the media because of it's Hollywood type ending and with some Astronomers & Geologist looking for a trip to Cancun, but you will find very few paleontologist who agree with that silly hypothesis.

They have been looking for the cause of the P-Tr extinction for a long time with many pointing to the Siberian Traps volcanism as the cause.
Should this Antarctica impactor be concurrent with the Siberian Traps volcanism then the impactor could have been the cause. Just as the K-T impactor is concurrent with the Deccan Traps volcanism.
I know I'm late, but.....

How vile! A story that combines the twin scourges of evolution and
craterism!
