Air conditioning bills in Baton Rouge are horrible, just as bad or worse as heating in the north. They all depend on energy. I told my kids not to move to any part of the country where you have to have air conditioning. You can build a fire if you have to or do something to survive in the cold, but if you are sensitive to the heat (it can kill some people), it is not good to live in those places.

You've run out of heating oil; you can't afford any more; it is 35 below zero outside; and it is thirty and dropping in your living room. Build a fire? Where???

I would concur in that instance...the heat and humdity in Baton Rouge is horrible. My electric bill during the summer months in east Tennessee ran about $75 per month. My heat bill in NH, over the course of this past winter, which was VERY MILD? $450 per month. Heating oil will rise another 30 to 50% this coming winter, and it may very well be much colder. G-d have mercy on those with fixed incomes...
