Keeping them "in line" as you put it, is necessary, boys need guidance, not drugs. Kudos to you for your work with them, I'm sure that takes alot of patience. Probably alot more than I have.

Thanks. Doesn't take a ton of patience, just reasonable expectations. Nowadays they take these boys and put them on the "predicate felon" track just because they get into a fight. You can't expect a regular, normal American kid to take a comment about his mother's sexual proclivities lying down.
It's just not reasonable.
And the cash they get everyday for working helps the whole "in line" thing immensely.
Funny thing is that this whole mentoring thing got started because, when I was a kid, most of the young black male thugs looked out for me. Taught me how to fight and watched my back on occasion. Seemed like turnabout was fair play.
