I've read "For Whom the Bells Tolls" and didn't really like it (I thought "A Farewell to Arms" was better), but I suspect if I reread it now, I'd appreciate it more.
Most people think "The Sun Also Rises" is his best novel - his first. I recommend his short stories which are wonderful and his memoir "A Moveable Feast." How sad he's no longer taught in schools.
