Snip: It cited a massive investment slated for Mexico, one whose full scope had not been made public by the company. Ford is closing plants in this country and is scheduled to eliminate between 25,000 and 30,000 jobs in the next six years.
During that same period, the document indicates, it will invest more than $9 billion in Mexico, including revamping an existing plant and building a new one. In addition, the Ford plans indicate it expects to increase its purchasing of Mexican-made parts by 300 percent and shift some engineering work to that country.
Ford is not alone, of course, in increasing its business in Mexico. General Motors, DaimlerChrysler and Nissan and Toyota also are investing more there.
